A song from Dhurandhar, and what it said about fighting alone.
If a song is hitting you hard and moving you a lot, it is not just a song. It is poetry.
“Na toh karvaan ki talaash hai”
I am not looking for the crowd anymore.

My journey no longer depends on someone walking beside me.
When life puts you in a place where you are alone with yourself, that line hits hard. It tells you, without saying it directly: fight alone, and it is completely okay.
Then the song opens.
“Dhoop tootke kaanch ki tarah”
Sunlight breaks like shattered glass.
“Chubh gayi toh kya ab dekha jayega”
So what if it pricks me, I will still face it.
“Aandhiyan kayi dil mein hai mere”
There are many storms swirling inside my heart.
“Chubh gayi toh kya ab dekha jayega”
So what if they prick me, I will still face them.
Four lines, and everything is already there. Sunlight is not only harshness. It is light. It is a place away from the darkness. Setup and payoff in four sentences.
“Dil hai toota”
My heart is broken.
“Mera main ishq jalakar aa gaya”
I have come after burning my love.
The love here is not the day-to-day kind. It means attachment. He burned away the attachment, not the love.
“Aadhi baatein aankhen bole”
My eyes say half the story.
“Baaki aadhi khamoshi kehde”
And my silence tells the other half.
Both are speaking, and he still can’t find words.
I had not really listened to this song, not to what it meant, until after the second part. Maybe that is why it hit me harder.
The first part never showed the character’s pain. You understand he is in pain, but you do not know the story yet. This song carries his whole arc in a few lines. He killed the men who assaulted his sister. He left his family and everything he had. He was ready for the death sentence, and life handed him a new life instead.
Dying would have been easier than starting again.
He started again.
Dhurandhar has its commercial elements. But I have not seen a commercial film with characterisation this deep in recent times. For someone who watches character arcs closely, that song was one of the best experiences I have had. And it gave me the spirit to fight alone with Project No. 01.
