Start anyway and get lost

A line. Maybe that’s all you need.
Two lines from the book, Steal Like an Artist changed the way I think.
The first one:
“Do good work and share it with people.”

When I started making videos, I was always anxious. Will people like it. What will they think. I was leaning on validation more than the work. Until I read that line.

Read where it ends. Share it with people. That’s the whole sentence. That’s the whole action. Nothing after it about whether they clap.
It reminded me of a shloka from the Geeta:

“Karmanye vadhikaraste, ma phaleshu kadachana.”
Your right is to the work alone, never to its fruits.
Do the work. Let go of the fruit.

Then, when I thought about starting something completely new, it felt heavy.
That’s when the second line landed:

“You start out as a phony and become real.”
That’s all I wanted to hear.

Turns out it’s part and parcel of creative work. You begin fake, and become real by restarting.

You start.
You get lost.
That is part of every creative journey.
